Learning objectives

By the end of this lesson you will be able to:

  • Build a small test set of real questions.
  • Check answers against records and fix the data.
  • Keep a weekly data-quality routine.

A small test set

Collect ten to twenty real customer questions, including a few about things you do not sell. Ask them after big catalog changes and compare each answer with your records.

What to look for

  • Answers that use your own names, prices and stock.
  • A hand-off where the data is missing, which is correct behaviour.
  • Confident answers about things not in your catalog, which are worth reporting.
  • Different answers to the same question, often a sign of duplicate or conflicting records.

A weekly routine

  • Review handed-off conversations and add the missing details.
  • Update stock after deliveries and record sales.
  • Retire discontinued products.
  • Re-ask two or three test questions.

One test, one fix

A made-up test run.

  1. Test question: "Is the 65 W charger compatible with the Aero 14 laptop?"
  2. Answer: "I can’t confirm that." The compatibility rule was never recorded.
  3. The owner adds the rule between the charger and the laptop.
  4. Re-test: the rule now answers yes.

Practical exercise · planning

Create your test set

  1. Write ten real customer questions and two about products you do not sell.
  2. Next to each, write the answer your records should give.
  3. Pick a day of the week for your routine and put it in your calendar.
