Learning objectives
By the end of this lesson you will be able to:
- List the fields of a product record.
- Explain how quotes, orders and in-person sales change stock.
- Say which records feed customer answers and which feed owner questions.
Product records
- Name and price: the two fields every product needs.
- Description and category: in words your customers use.
- SKU: a code that keeps imports and search reliable.
- Stock: tracked per product or per variant.
- Variants: size, colour or pack, each with its own stock.
- Attributes: facts people compare, such as material or capacity.
Quotes, orders and sales
A quote copies catalog prices when it is made. It becomes an order only when the customer accepts it, and stock updates with the order. Sales made in person can be recorded too; recording a sale never processes a payment.
Who reads what
- The customer assistant reads your products, variants, attributes, stock and compatibility rules.
- Owner questions and the daily brief read your orders, quotes, stock and customers, and show the date range they used.
- Only members of your business can ask owner questions about its records.
Illustrative example · fictional data
One record, three uses
A made-up product.
- The record: "Linen shirt, medium, blue", $32, 5 in stock.
- A shopper asks if it comes in medium; the assistant answers from the variant and its stock.
- The owner asks what sold best this month; the answer counts the orders that include it.
- Stock falls to 1; the daily brief lists it as at risk of running out.
Practical exercise · in your catalog
Audit three products
- Open three products in your catalog (or write them out if you do not use Anchor yet).
- Check each has a name, a real price, a description a customer would understand, and stock.
- Add one attribute customers often ask about to each product.
If you have an Anchor account, you can make these changes in your catalog; the lesson itself changes nothing.
Recap
- Every product needs a name and a price; stock, variants and attributes make answers useful.
- Quotes become orders on acceptance; recording a sale never takes a payment.
- Customer answers read the catalog; owner questions read orders, quotes, stock and customers.
Knowledge check
Three questions. Choose an answer, check it and read the explanation; you can try again as often as you like.
Your answers are not saved or sent anywhere.
